Canadian Motor Lamp Factory
Last weekend I had the chance to go do some urban exploring at the old Canadian Motor Lamp Factory in Windsor, Ontario. I have driven past it many times, but never got around to exploring it. Until last Sunday that is when my friend Ryan suggested we go check it out and take some pics.
The Canadian Motor Lamp Factory was a “tier one” supplier, they provided headlamps and related assemblies to the automakers in the 20′s, 30′s and 40′s. From what I have read this location was also the scene of some fierce strikes in the 1930′s as the UAW battled to represent Windsor autoworkers.
As with most historical buildings, the build quality was amazing and most of the structure was holding up fine after years of abuse and mostly cosmetic & maintenance issues. There has been several companies that have used this building since it seems as mostly a warehouse and storage facility. The back half of this building has a new addition that appears to still be in use today, but is sealed off from this building completely.
The building is very well secured and despite what looks to be a dozen or more attempts at making some easy entrances to the building, getting in is abit trickier then expected. It seems every attempt has been made to keep people out, and many previous entrances have been re-sealed. But fortunately there is no KEEP OUT or NO TRESPASSING signs posted, and there is no need to cause any damage to explore this location.
The CML factory has lots of great views and old details, with plenty of the original memorabilia around from its early years of use to be seen. You could easily spend an entire afternoon exploring the place if you had the time. Unfortunately we just made a quick pass through the place with the sunset on what was already a long day prior to going there. There was signs that many other people have visited this site before us aswell.
I hope you enjoyed seeing some of the pics from our adventure, alot of people seem to enjoy looking at this stuff as much as I do so I figured I would post some of it up on the blog now aswell.
Do you know any cool locations I should know about or check out... Let me know and I will be sure to post up my adventures!
